I come from where the water glistens

Loons wailing to each other in the distance,

The morning dew refreshes my nostrils

My ears twitch to the echoes of my father’s cough

It is time to rise and travel with grandfather sun

The lake’s water is my morning’s desire

Every day I yearn to swim with the water beings

The feeling of the gentle waves, cool, sparkling and refreshing

As horseflies indulge on our human flesh

Our limbs explode like giant strawberry patches

We swim together for hours until our brown suits turn into lizards

Our bellies roar like the thunder

Mother howls for us to come and eat

Mother earth and her sweet gift

The aroma of blueberries fills the air

My mouth waters and I indulge in this gift

Sleep overcomes me

These are my precious memories
